The modern language helps me enjoy his glorious insight with much more ease. Here's one book I am reading multiple times, and each time more and more of it stays with me, building my faith and understanding.

This is written in modern English, but still retains the original message. This book is based on sermons preached by Thomas Boston (1676-1732), a Presbyterian preacher in Scotland. He believed that "holy wisdom" helps us make the most of our life's situation. He says that our problems are the "work of God."If something is disagreeable to you (sickness, death of a loved one, misfortune, burdens, difficult relationships or insults), then God is at work. Are you suffering under a heavy trial? God may have plans for your life that you could never imagine. Has Satan made you his own private project? Rejoice because God has found you worthy of testing.There is also some discussion about idols in our lives and how God is jealous. Do you have an idol in your life - something you love more than God? I also found the ideas that evil will try to break your spirit to be a warning. As James 1:12 says: "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him."What is interesting about this book is how Thomas Boston explains the truth from Bible stories that can be applied to daily life. He has great insight into the problems humans experience and provides biblical wisdom like how "all things work together for good."Some of this book deals with the issue of humility and how God will raise you up to new heights if you are willing to humble yourself in this life. Some of this book deals with issues like self-denial and submission to the will of God.I found myself talking to God through this book as the revelations were realized. It was an enlightening and comforting experience. This book also provides lots of hope for the believer who wants to trust that his life is in God's hands.One thing that you should know is that the word "crook" in this book does not mean a dishonest person. It means a crooked, painful or difficult trial in life. Once you realize that the book makes way more sense!~The Rebecca Review
